LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Connor Looby for his outstanding advoca-
cy for and promotion of lymphedema awareness and research

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that the quality and
character of life in the communities across New York State are reflec-
tive of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations and indi-
viduals committed to helping to improve the lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and fully in accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud on the occa-
sion of the observance of National Lymphedema Awareness Day on March 6,
2014, and seeks to honor and pay tribute to Connor Looby, a seven-year-
old boy who has suffered from intestinal lymphangiectasia, a rare lymp-
hatic disease, since his birth, and who currently suffers from lymphede-
ma; in spite of his young age, Connor has been a tireless advocate for
lymphatic disease awareness, education, and research; and
WHEREAS, National Lymphedema Awareness Day brings awareness to this
often debilitating condition and helps find strength through collective
celebration and is also set aside to honor inspirational Lymphedema
patients and advocates; and
WHEREAS, Connor Looby began his fundraising and awareness efforts at
the young age of six, when he and his family and friends formed a team
for an obstacle race course (the tri-State Tuxedo Spartan Sprint) in
Tuxedo, New York, to raise awareness and funds for lymphatic disease
research; and
WHEREAS, Connor Looby has worked tirelessly despite significant health
issues, including having had multiple hospitalizations, being on a low-
fat, restricted diet, receiving daily physical therapy, and undergoing
weekly infusions; and
WHEREAS, Connor Looby continued fundraising after his obstacle race
event, raising money for the 2013 Walk for Lymphedema & Lymphatic
Diseases; and
WHEREAS, Connor Looby's family and friends have devoted themselves to
this cause and made it their own; and
WHEREAS, In September 2013, at the Walk for Lymphedema & Lymphatic
Diseases, Connor Looby was honored with the McKenna Shea Johnson Youth
Ambassador Award by the Lymphatic Education & Research Network for his
outstanding efforts; and
WHEREAS, Connor Looby continues to speak out and be a voice for lymp-
hatic disease patients; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Connor Looby for his outstanding advocacy and promotion of Lymp-
hedema awareness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Connor Looby, and to the Lymphatic Education & Research
Network.
