LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Donna A. Zaccaro, Director and Produc-
er of "Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way," for her numerous accomplish-
ments, extraordinary achievements in her profession, and service to her
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those outstanding individuals who distinguish themselves in
their profession, bringing entertainment and cultural enrichment to
their community and to the citizens of the great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The arts are central to human expression; they are truly a
universal language and their contribution to the development of friend-
ship and understanding among all peoples cannot be underestimated; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Donna A.
Zaccaro, Director and Producer of "Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way,"
for her numerous accomplishments, extraordinary achievements in her
profession, and service to her community; and
WHEREAS, Donna A. Zaccaro, the daughter of the late Geraldine Ferraro,
directed and produced "Geraldine Ferraro: Paving the Way," a feature-
length documentary which tells a number of stories: the principal story
is the life of political trailblazer Geraldine Ferraro and the impact
she had on American culture and politics; there is, in addition, the
very American story of a child of immigrants rising out of poverty
through education to unimaginable achievements; and
WHEREAS, The film depicts the struggles of women in this country to
achieve success, and what it takes for women to be considered equals to
men, including the personal costs involved; furthermore, there is also
the love story between Geraldine Ferraro and her husband, John Zaccaro,
and how critical his untraditional and unwavering support of his wife
was to her being able to even attempt the professional and personal
challenges she faced; and
WHEREAS, The film will be screened at The Egg in Albany, New York, on
Wednesday, March 12, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Donna A. Zaccaro's primary intent in directing and producing
the documentary was to preserve her mother's legacy while, at the same
time, share the lessons of her life in the hope of inspiring others to
greater achievement in their own lives; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine Ferraro famously stated, "I stand before you to
proclaim tonight: America is the land where dreams can come true for all
of us."; today's young women will now know through Donna A. Zaccaro's
documentary how her pioneering roles have impacted their lives; and
WHEREAS, Donna A. Zaccaro is the Founder and President of Dazzling
Media, a New York-based media production company; and
WHEREAS, Prior to directing and producing "Geraldine Ferraro: Paving
the Way," Donna A. Zaccaro was a longtime, award-winning producer for
the "Today" show; she has also had careers in politics on campaigns for
her mother; in public affairs at the Bedford Kent Group, a marketing and
communications firm she co-founded; and investment banking at Salomon
Brothers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, she serves on the Board of Trustees at Grace Church
School, an independent school in New York City; and was President of
WhatGoesAround.org (WGA), a nonprofit, on-line charitable giving site;
and
WHEREAS, Donna Zaccaro, whose mother was diagnosed with Multiple
Myeloma in 1998, and ultimately succumbed to it in 2011, has also served
on the Board of Directors of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation
(MMRF) and taken an active role in MMRF Laugh for Life: New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Donna A. Zaccaro, Director and Producer of "Geraldine Ferraro:
Paving the Way," her her numerous accomplishments, extraordinary
achievements in her profession, and service to her community; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Donna A. Zaccaro.
