LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James Buff for 50 years of dedicated
service to the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize brave
citizens who have played a significant role in making our community a
great place to live, and to celebrate the contributions and sacrifices
they have made to our society to ensure the safety and the advancement
of the quality of life for all residents; and
WHEREAS, Within every community in the State of New York, there are
certain individuals who unselfishly devote themselves to public service,
and demonstrate great courage and diligence in providing for the care
and welfare of the citizens of their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with long-stand-
ing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize and
honor James Buff for 50 years of dedicated service to the Skaneateles
Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, In October 1963, James Buff joined the Coon Hill Fire Compa-
ny, one of the Skaneateles Fire Department's fire districts located
outside of the Village of Skaneateles that was officially formed in
1959; and
WHEREAS, During his career, James Buff was Lieutenant and Captain of
the Coon Hill Company, District 2, Assistant Fire Chief for 10 consec-
utive years, Finance Secretary for 14 consecutive years, Chairman of the
Board of Trustees, Chairman of the 175th Celebration, Chairman of the
Firehouse Sponsorship Committee, Chairman of the Labor Day Celebration,
President of the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department, and the announc-
er for the Labor Day Parade; and also emceed the Skaneateles Fire
Department's Installation Dinner for more than 45 years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the long history of the Skaneateles Fire Depart-
ment, one thing has remained constant, the dedication, hard-work,
commitment and sacrifices of men and women like James Buff; and
WHEREAS, James Buff has volunteered his time year in and year out,
working long hours and sacrificing time with his family to protect the
lives and properties of his neighbors and fellow residents of Skanea-
teles; and
WHEREAS, After 50 years, James Buff still continues to serve the resi-
dents of Skaneateles and surrounding communities as an active fireman;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and honor James Buff for his 50 years of dedicated service to
the Skaneateles Volunteer Fire Department, the residents of Skaneateles
and surrounding areas; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James Buff.
