LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Judith McLaughlin upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the 2013 Community Leader of the Year
Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Judith McLaughlin has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Judith
McLaughlin upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2013
Community Leader of the Year Award by the Schoharie County Chamber of
Commerce; and
WHEREAS, This momentous occasion will be celebrated at the Chamber's
Annual Awards Banquet, to be held on Friday, March 28, 2014, at the Best
Western Banquet Room, Cobleskill, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Schoharie County Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to the
cooperative efforts of the business and residential community in
preserving the quality, character, and vitality of business in the Coun-
ty of Schoharie and, each year, proudly honors those individuals within
the community, such as Judith McLaughlin, who help to further these
goals; and
WHEREAS, Judith McLaughlin served as executive director of Schoharie
County Child Development Council (SCCDC) from 1993 to 2014; she holds a
bachelor's degree in Human Services, as well as a master's degree in
Liberal Studies; and
WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Judith McLaughlin administered and
managed more than 100 employees in the successful implementation of such
programs as Head Start, Early Head Start, and universal pre-kindergarten
where she truly touched the lives of countless children and their fami-
lies; and
WHEREAS, Currently the managing editor for Heart Springs Press, a
non-profit publishing company which is a part of SCCDC, Judith McLaugh-
lin designs, edits and markets e-books and paperbacks including DINOSAUR
SEASONS and DINOSAUR CURRICULUM; and
WHEREAS, In addition, she is the author of SACRED FEMININE, a book
which examines the role of culture and religion in Spanish Colonial
artwork of the American Southwest; and
WHEREAS, Judith McLaughlin has been called upon to contribute her time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Judith McLaughlin serves as a
founding board member of Schoharie Area Long Term (SALT Disaster Recov-
ery), and the Communitywide Christmas Collaboration, which provides for
Schoharie County's children during the holidays; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, she has served on numerous boards, some of which
include SCCAP, SCASA, SUNY Early Childhood Department NAEYC Credential-
ing Board, CCSI, Early Release Commission and Community Maternity
Services; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Judith McLaughlin has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Dan Godfrey, their
four children, Erin, Rebecca, Briana (Reis) and Ryan (Therese), and two
grandchildren, Aydan and Sia, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Judith McLaughlin has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Judith McLaughlin upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the 2013 Community Leader of the Year Award by the Schoharie
County Chamber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judith McLaughlin.
