LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar upon the
occasion of celebrating 40 years of distinguished service to the Wayne
County Sheriff's Office on April 1, 2014

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect such values,
lauding particularly their unwavering courage and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and
WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize and commend such outstanding
law enforcement officers as Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar for their
valued contributions to the community; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Lieutenant
Stephen F. Sklenar upon the occasion of celebrating 40 years of distin-
guished service to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday, April
1, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Stephen F. Sklenar was hired at the Wayne County Sheriff's
Office as a Deputy Sheriff on April 1, 1974; he was promoted to Sergeant
on November 1, 1981; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the Civil Division as Sergeant in charge of the
Civil Office on January 1, 2004, Stephen F. Sklenar was then once again
promoted to Lieutenant of the Civil Division on November 9, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar Chaired the Committee to
combine Civil Accreditation Standards in-line with the Standards of Law
Enforcement Accreditation, and assisted the NYSSA with the review and
re-writing of the current Civil Office Accreditation Standards; and
WHEREAS, A member of countless special teams throughout his four
decade tenure, Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar is currently Commander for
the Emergency Response Team, Head Instructor of Firearms for the Office
of Sheriff, as well as a Firearms and Accident Investigation/Reporting
Instructor for Finger Lakes Academy Police Officer Basic School; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar has been an
instructor for nearly every law enforcement officer currently employed
in the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Association Training Region; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar has exhibited continued dedi-
cation and commitment to the Wayne County Office of Sheriff in all
aspects of his assignments and responsibilities, many times, going above
and beyond the call of duty; and
WHEREAS, A frequent lecturer at the Museum of Wayne County History on
Sheriff related programs, Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar also presents to
Civic Groups on Historical Law Enforcement Topics, including Ontario
County Historical Society, Seneca County Magistrates, and Sodus Bay
Historical Society; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar upon the occasion of celebrating
40 years of distinguished service to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office
on April 1, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lieutenant Stephen F. Sklenar.
