LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter William Hughes upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 46 years of
dedicated service to the Willowvale Fire Company, Inc. in Chadwicks, New
York

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, The Town of New Hartford contracts with the Willowvale Fire
Company to provide fire and EMS services to the Chadwicks and Washington
Mills areas and, in 2001, the Willowvale Fire Company proudly hosted the
Oneida County Volunteer Firemen's Convention; and
WHEREAS, William "Bill" Hughes has served as a Volunteer Firefighter
for 46 years, since 1966; after serving 30 of those 46 years as Chief of
the Willowvale Fire Company, he has decided to retire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter William
Hughes upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 46 years of dedicated service to the Willowvale Fire Company, Inc.
in Chadwicks, New York, where William Hughes resides with his wife
Janet; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate his remarkable career and service to his commu-
nity the Willowvale Fire Company is honoring William Hughes at a dinner
to be held at Danielle's Banquet Hall in New Hartford, New York on
Saturday, April 27, 2013; and
WHEREAS, William Hughes has served as a volunteer firefighter since
1966; he has been a leader of the Willowvale Fire Company and is always
there for those in the community when needed; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; William
Hughes is such a firefighter; throughout his 46 years of devoted
service, William Hughes has heroically performed, above and beyond the
call of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter William Hughes for 46 years of distinguished
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William Hughes.
