LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Gus Lanzo, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Gus Lanzo of Rockville Centre, New York, died on February 1,
2013, at the age of 88; and
WHEREAS, Gus Lanzo was born on October 21, 1924, and raised in Rock-
ville Centre; when he was of age, he was drafted to serve his country
during World War II but, because his brother, Frank, was killed in the
Battle of the Bulge, he was never deployed outside of the United States;
WHEREAS, After the war, the Lanzo family traveled to Italy; it was
there he met and married Julie Prochilo, in Calabria, in 1947; the
couple returned to America and started a life together in Rockville
Centre; and
WHEREAS, Gus Lanzo distinguished himself in his profession and by his
sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of his
community; and
WHEREAS, Gus Lanzo spent his life working as a contractor, working
from the time he returned to America until approximately three and a
half years ago; and
WHEREAS, Gus Lanzo's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of
humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including charita-
ble and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, An active member in his community, Gus Lanzo served as an
usher at St. Agnes for 25 years before he changed parishes to St.
Anthony's in Oceanside, New York, to be closer to his family; while
there, he also served as usher; and
WHEREAS, Gus Lanzo was the Commander of the American Legion Post No.
303 in Rockville Centre for about eight years, and also served as Grand
Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Oceanside, the country's largest
Knights of Columbus chapter; and
WHEREAS, More than anything, Gus Lanzo was a true family man; it was
when his family was around him, he was the happiest; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Gus Lanzo leaves behind a legacy which will long endure the
passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he served
and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Gus Lanzo, distinguished citizen and devoted member
of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Gus Lanzo.
