LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department, to be celebrated on April
13, 2013

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to commemorate the 75th Anni-
versary of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department and
to honor its past and present members for 75 years of support of the
Lindenhurst Fire Department, and the citizens of Lindenhurst, New York,
and its surrounding Suffolk County communities; and
WHEREAS, Historically, the ladies auxiliary of a volunteer fire compa-
ny has been organized to assist and encourage the fire company in its
good work; it is the aim of the ladies auxiliary to cultivate a spirit
of harmony, to promote sociability and to sustain the esteem and admira-
tion of the communities it serves; and
WHEREAS, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department has,
for 75 years, carried out these important functions in an exemplary
manner, providing an invaluable service to the fire department and
community; and
WHEREAS, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department was
established April 13, 1937, the second Tuesday of the month and to this
day the members continue to meet on that same Tuesday; and
WHEREAS, With a membership of 57, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Linden-
hurst Fire Department is made up of mothers, wives and daughters of the
volunteer firefighters; currently, there are 13 members with over 50
years of service, 34 life members, and 18 past presidents, of which 13
of them remain; the four charter members, all of which have died, were
still active until their passing; and
WHEREAS, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department
belongs to a number of state and local area auxiliaries, with many of
its members holding elected offices; one member won the prestigious Lady
of the Year Award through LAFASNY; and
WHEREAS, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department's
marching unit has won numerous awards at local parades and throughout
New York State; and
WHEREAS, Over the years the auxiliary has helped the firefighters in
many ways from supporting everything they do to keeping them nourished
and hydrated while fighting major fires or the storms of recent years;
and
WHEREAS, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department also
helps neighboring communities when called upon to assist their auxilia-
ries at major fires, some being the Wildfires in 1997, and the fires at
Edgewood in 2006, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire
Department has assisted families in need through local churches at holi-
day times, or the donation of food to the food banks; this past year,
the members assisted the families of Super Storm Sandy by jointly
running a food and clothing drive which was very successful; and
WHEREAS, At times, the members of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Linden-
hurst Fire Department have handed a coat to a victim of a fire to keep
them warm as they watch their home go up in flames; and
WHEREAS, The volunteers of the Lindenhurst Fire Department truly
appreciate the members of its Ladies Auxiliary, knowing when they are
physically exhausted and emotionally drained, whether chilled to the
bone or withering from the heat, they will be able to look up and see an
auxiliary member standing there with a candy bar, sandwich or a cup of
soup, and a warm smiling face; and

WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to volunteer selflessly, supporting
and assisting the firefighters in the provision of fire protection and
prevention; and
WHEREAS, For 75 years, whether at a family dinner or a holiday cele-
bration, when the fire alarm has sounded, these selfless volunteers have
left their homes and jobs to help the firefighters in pursuit of their
duty; and
WHEREAS, The Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department is
prepared daily to carry out its accepted responsibilities, not only
serving but also enhancing the quality of life in their community and
advancing the perception of Lindenhurst as a caring and united communi-
ty; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor and warmly congratulate the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst
Fire Department and its past and present members upon the occasion of
its 75th Anniversary, to be celebrated at Firemen's Memorial Park,
Saturday, April 13, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lindenhurst Fire Department.
