LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Rensselaer County Historical Soci-
ety upon the occasion of receiving an Award of Merit from Museumwise:
The Museum Association of New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
efforts of those organizations that seek to illuminate historical time
periods, places and events within the State of New York and, in so
doing, help to ensure that the complete history of our State and Nation
is preserved, to be shared with present and future generations of citi-
zens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in keeping with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is proud to commend the Rens-
selaer County Historical Society upon the occasion of receiving an Award
of Merit from Museumwise: The Museum Association of New York (MANY), to
be presented at its annual Museums in Conversation conference luncheon
in Syracuse, New York, on Monday, April 15, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Museumwise gives out awards annually to projects ranging from
exhibitions to educational programs, in order to recognize outstanding
work in the museum and history community, reward staff and volunteers,
and to encourage the development of new and innovative projects; and
WHEREAS, The Award of Merit, Museumwise's highest honor, is given to
institutions or individuals whose projects represent exceptional
contributions to the field and overall innovation and excellence; and
WHEREAS, The Rensselaer County Historical Society is being honored for
last year's public program, Revolution on the Runway, a multi-media
event that featured 10 clothing examples representative of a 100 year
time span (1860-1960), and explored the question of how clothing
contributes to conforming or rebelling against societal norms; and
WHEREAS, The Rensselaer County Historical Society worked closely with
four Russell Sage College students to create this exceptional program,
which was held on March 16, 2012, at Bush Memorial Hall, Russell Sage
College in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of our great Empire State is great-
ly enhanced by institutions that engage communities in the exploration
of New York's history and culture, instilling in them a deep appreci-
ation for the richness and breadth of our cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the Rensselaer County Historical
Society, and for all of the individuals who have worked to bring proper
attention to a place and time which merits recognition in the grand
panorama of the history of our State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Rensselaer County Historical Society upon the occasion of
receiving an Award of Merit from Museumwise: The Museum Association of
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rensselaer Historical Society.
