LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Cheryl Uram upon the occasion of her
selection by The Sisterhood of Merrick Jewish Centre as the Torah Fund
Breakfast honoree, on April 14, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Cheryl Uram upon the occasion of her selection by The Sisterhood of
Merrick Jewish Centre as the Torah Fund Breakfast honoree, to be cele-
brated on Sunday, April 14, 2013, at the Merrick Jewish Centre, Merrick,
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Torah Fund Breakfast of The Sisterhood of the Merrick
Jewish Centre is held annually to benefit the Jewish Theological Semi-
nary in New York City, and to honor those sisters who have made contrib-
utions and commitment of themselves, and their time, to Sisterhood; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Uram has been called upon to contribute her time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Uram was raised in Conservative Judaism and became a
Bat Mitzvah at the age of 12; and
WHEREAS, While in college, Cheryl Uram became involved in Junior
Hadassah and spent time in Israel, first on a summer youth trip of
Junior Hadassah/Young Judea and then on a year-long stay on a kibbutz
where she immersed herself in the country and its language; it was
during this period that she developed the passionate commitment to Isra-
el that has shaped her exemplary life; and
WHEREAS, After marrying and living in Israel for three years, Cheryl
Uram returned to the United States, obtained her license to sell real
estate, and became active in the Valley Stream Chapter of Hadassah and
the local temples, with which she worked to attract more Jewish families
into the area; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Uram began her long and fruitful involvement with the
Merrick Jewish Centre community when relocated to Merrick in order to
pursue activities related to her Jewish identity; and
WHEREAS, A lifetime learner, Cheryl Uram is a student of metaphysics
who seeks harmony and healing for herself and each unique being who
crosses her path; she is a Reiki Master, practices yoga and meditation,
and seeks spirituality through a variety of realms; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Cheryl Uram has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl Uram is the proud mother of two children, Sasha and
Noam, and the loving grandmother of four grandchildren, Elia, Talia,
Eliel and Avia, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community, with unremitting commit-
ment, ceaseless devotion and spiritual resolve, certainly have earned
the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Cheryl Uram upon the occasion of her selection by The Sisterhood

of Merrick Jewish Centre as the Torah Fund Breakfast honoree; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cheryl Uram.
