LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Reverend Peter M. Larsen upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Trus-
tee Award by the United Hospital Fund, on May 6, 2013

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Peter M. Larsen has given not only of his time
and energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend The Reverend
Peter M. Larsen upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2013 Distinguished Trustee Award by the United Hospital Fund, to be
celebrated at the Tribute to Hospital Trustees luncheon on Monday, May
6, 2013, at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Distinguished Trustee Award publicly recognizes individ-
uals for extraordinary service, philanthropic support and leadership,
and deep commitment to not-for-profit hospitals in the New York region;
and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Peter M. Larsen has been called upon to contrib-
ute his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Larsen is Chairman of the Board of Directors of
Southampton Hospital, Southampton, New York; and
WHEREAS, He is a founding board member of the Peconic Landing Lifecare
community in Greenport, New York, a member of the Board of Trustees of
the East End Health Alliance, and a member of the Board of Fighting
Chance in Sag Harbor, New York, a free counseling service offered to
residents and visitors to the East End of Long Island; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Larsen also serves on the Board of the Southampton
Animal Shelter Foundation; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Larsen's long and sustained commitment to the health
and well-being of others has earned him several awards, including the
Good Samaritan Award, given by East End Hospice and the Chaplain of the
Year Award given by The Reserve Officers Association; and
WHEREAS, Retired from the Chaplain Corps of the United States Naval
Reserve with the rank of Captain after thirty years of distinguished
service, Peter M. Larsen is Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church and
Priest-in-Charge at St. Andrew's Dune Church, both in Southampton, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Peter M. Larsen received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Educa-
tion from Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 1970; a
Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Theological Seminary, Alexand-
ria, Virginia, in 1974, and a Certificate from the Navy Chaplains
School, Newport, Rhode Island in 1983; and
WHEREAS, During the entire period of his community service, a period
of constructive involvement, The Reverend Peter M. Larsen has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Nancy, who feels priv-
ileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which The Reverend Peter M. Larsen has
displayed throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Reverend Peter M. Larsen upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Trustee Award by the
United Hospital Fund; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Reverend Peter M. Larsen.
