LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending David Jacobowitz upon the occasion of
his retirement after many years of dedicated service as President of the
Firemen's Association of the State of New York

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend David Jacobowitz
upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of dedicated
service as President of the Firemen's Association of the State of New
York, to be celebrated on Friday, August 17, 2012, at the Spinning Wheel
Restaurant in Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Newburgh, New York, David Jacobowitz graduated from
the State University College at Oswego in 1970, with a Bachelor of
Science degree in Education; and
WHEREAS, In 1971, David Jacobowitz moved to Whitesboro, New York, and
was employed as a Technology teacher at Rome Free Academy, where he also
served as wrestling coach from 1976-1978 and as class advisor from
1975-1992; and
WHEREAS, David Jacobowitz has served as a member of the Whitesboro
Fire Department since 1971, and as its Chief from 1981-2001; he also
served as a Uniform Building and Fire Prevention Enforcement Officer for
the Village of Whitesboro from 1984-1993; and
WHEREAS, In addition, David Jacobowitz has been a valued member of the
Oneida County Fire Advisory Board for the last 22 years; and
WHEREAS, In 2008, David Jacobowitz was elected as 1st Vice President
of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY), and was
subsequently elected in 2010 to serve as its President; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his firematic career, David Jacobowitz has been
the recipient of numerous awards and accolades including the 1992 New
York State Association of Fire Chief's Excellence in Leadership Award,
the 1992 Ambrose F. Carey Fireman of the Year Award, and the Whitestown
American Legion Post No. 1113's Citizen of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of his community, David Jacobow-
itz has also served as a member of the Oneida County Arson Task Force,
the Oneida County E911 Task Force, and as a member of the Village of
Whitesboro Planning Board; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; David
Jacobowitz is such a firefighter; throughout his years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend David Jacobowitz upon the occasion of his retirement after many
years of dedicated service as President of the Firemen's Association of
the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David Jacobowitz.
