LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Besecker
and Coss, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate the
long histories of certain family business endeavors, which are the
cornerstone of economic success in this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 60th Anniversary of Besecker and Coss, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, In 1953, Francis Besecker and Emmett Coss took on the chal-
lenges of entrepreneurship, starting a company selling and servicing
appliances; and
WHEREAS, Francis Besecker passed away in 1965; his son-in-law, John
Gerringer became a co-owner of Besecker and Coss; and
WHEREAS, Emmett Coss retired in 1973; John and Phyllis Gerringer
continued to run the business until their retirement in 1998; and
WHEREAS, Currently, John and Phyllis Gerringer's sons, John Gerringer,
Jr. and Mike Gerringer, and their daughter, Charmaine Bean, are third-
generation owners of Besecker and Coss; and
WHEREAS, With the largest showroom in the Southern Tier, Besecker and
Coss sell a wide range of appliances, home electronics and mattresses;
they deliver products to customers; their Parts Department helps diag-
nose problems and supplies parts for do-it-yourself customers; their
Service Department provides quality in-home repairs by factory author-
ized technicians; and
WHEREAS, Besecker and Coss was awarded the 2006 Enterprising Business
Award from the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce (GOACC); the
Enterprising Business Award was established as a way to recognize GOACC
members for continually and generously giving and positively impacting
the local community; it is the highest distinction for a business given
by the Chamber's 7l8 members; and
WHEREAS, John Gerringer, Sr. served as a leader in the local business
community through his involvement on the GOACC board; John Gerringer,
Jr. continues in that role through his current service on the GOACC
board; and
WHEREAS, Besecker and Coss continues to grow as a business; they have
expanded three times and now have 15 employees; and
WHEREAS, A customer-centered focus and hometown business ethic is at
the core of the company's success and is embodied in their philosophy
that says, "We Built Our Business On Service"; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor milestones in the history of small businesses in this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of Besecker and Coss, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Besecker and Coss, Inc.
