LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Geneva Farrow upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by Young Movement, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Geneva Farrow upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by Young Movement, Inc. on Saturday, March 30, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Young Movement is a 501c(3) member-supported action tank
providing research, advocacy, and partnerships on socio-economic issues
such as financial literacy and employment alternatives for young adults
and professionals in New York; incorporated in October of 2011, this
organization not only represents its members through research, advocacy,
and forming partnerships, but ensures the positive results are long-
standing while the unfavorable ones are non-recurrent for the next young
generation; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, to a teen mother and raised by
her grandparents, Geneva Farrow excelled socially and academically,
leaving Brooklyn for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's Temple University in
the Fall of 1998; and
WHEREAS, Upon her arrival at Temple, Geneva Farrow met another chal-
lenge when she became pregnant in the fall of her sophomore year; this
situation did not deter her as she continued to pursue her education
overcoming another obstacle; she graduated on time with her classmates
in 2002 despite being a young single mother; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Geneva Farrow immediately took a job in
pharmaceutical sales; she spent the next 10 years of her career in sales
and marketing, and in December of 2007, she felt the desire to motivate
other young mothers leading her to start a 501(c)(3) non-profit organ-
ization, A Young Mother's DREAM; and
WHEREAS, Geneva Farrow currently hosts the "No Girl Left Behind Radio
Show", a girl talk radio show focusing on the issues that teen girls are
facing daily; the goal of the show is to help young teens make better
choices; and
WHEREAS, Geneva Farrow has spoken to hundreds of young people inspir-
ing them to "Defy the Odds"; her DREAM Chaser workshop simplifies goal
setting by showing young people how to break down long term goals and
turn them into small attainable objectives; and
WHEREAS, Geneva Farrow enjoys speaking to young people but is also a
sought after speaker for those looking to start non-profits and create
marketing strategy for their businesses; she has been interviewed by a
host of blog talk radio shows and most recently interviewed on the TBN
cable network show "Joy in our Town"; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Geneva Farrow's distinguished record
merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this Legislative Body;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Geneva Farrow upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by Young Movement, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Geneva Farrow.
