LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Brenda and Dave Rickey upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the Springstead Award by the Gene-
va Rotary Club on May 2, 2013

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Brenda and Dave Rickey have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Brenda and
Dave Rickey upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary Club, to be celebrated at its
annual Service Above Self Dinner on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at Club 86 in
Geneva, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is a world fellowship of business and
professional people dedicated to providing community service, encourag-
ing high vocational standards and building international good will; and
WHEREAS, The Geneva Rotary Club's Springstead Award is presented to
individuals who exemplify the ideals of community service; and
WHEREAS, Brenda and Dave Rickey have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Founders and trustees of The Brenda & Dave Rickey Foundation,
the Rickeys, who reside in San Diego, California, are being honored for
their generous philanthropic support of educational programs and organ-
izations in New York State's Finger Lakes region; and
WHEREAS, Dave and Brenda Rickey's foundation contributes to charitable
organizations around the country; however, more than one third of their
donations aid local beneficiaries, including DeSales High School, The
Geneva Boys & Girls Club, Catholic elementary schools, Hobart & William
Smith Colleges, Geneva High School sports programs, Happiness House, the
Geneva Free Library and the Smith Opera House; and
WHEREAS, Dave Rickey was born and raised in Geneva, but has for the
most part lived in California since 1985, while Brenda Rickey grew up in
the northeastern United States; and
WHEREAS, Dave and Brenda Rickey have been married for 10 years, and
are the proud parents of five grown daughters, and the loving grandpar-
ents of one granddaughter; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dave and Brenda Rickey have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Dave and Brenda Rickey have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Brenda and Dave Rickey upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary Club; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brenda and Dave Rickey.
