LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Tom Ulbrich upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2013 Small Business Advocate of the Year
Award by the Amherst Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business organ-
izations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Tom
Ulbrich upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2013
Small Business Advocate of the Year Award by the Amherst Chamber of
Commerce; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated at the Chamber's
annual Small Business Awards Luncheon, to be held on Friday, May 17,
2013, at Samuel's Grande Manor in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Tom Ulbrich is the Executive Director at the University at
Buffalo School of Management's Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership;
the Center was developed in 1987 to unlock human potential, create jobs,
inspire wealth and invigorate the greater Western New York economy and
community through entrepreneurial development; and
WHEREAS, Under the outstanding leadership of Tom Ulbrich, in 2011 the
University at Buffalo School of Management's Center for Entrepreneurial
Leadership was recognized as one of the top 100 Small Business Influenc-
ers in North America; and
WHEREAS, Tom Ulbrich is a vocal advocate for small business and a
member of the NFIB New York State leadership team; and
WHEREAS, Writing and speaking frequently on subjects related to entre-
preneurship and the importance of small business to the economy, Tom
Ulbrich most recently presented a TED talk entitled, "Is There a Better
Way?", exploring the need to teach entrepreneurial skills to students
from an early age in an effort to prepare them to succeed in today's
rapidly changing world; and
WHEREAS, As a business owner and small business advocate, Tom Ulbrich
has a unique understanding of the importance of creating an environment
of opportunity for the small business community and strongly believes in
the entrepreneurial spirit that makes America great; he is committed to
represent these ideals in his role at the University at Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Tom Ulbrich; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an indi-
vidual of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, he should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Tom Ulbrich upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2013 Small Business Advocate of the Year Award by the Amherst Cham-
ber of Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Ulbrich.
