LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Monroe
Community College

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose exem-
plary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate the pursuit of
excellence in education and service to the community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of Monroe Community College; the celebration
of this auspicious event will continue through December 2012; and
WHEREAS, Monroe Community College (MCC), located in Rochester, New
York, opened its doors to students in 1962; today, it is ranked among
the top 15 community colleges in the country for associate degrees
awarded; and
WHEREAS, Annually, MCC serves approximately 35,500 students on its
Brighton and Damon City campuses, Applied Technologies Center, Public
Safety Training Facility and two extension centers; approximately 25
percent of recent high school graduates in the Greater Rochester area
begin their higher education at MCC; and
WHEREAS, This upstanding institute is a member of the prestigious
League for Innovation in the Community College Board of Directors; MCC
offers more than 90 degree and certificate programs, residence halls,
and 60 student clubs and organizations; and
WHEREAS, MCC's athletics program is ranked sixth in the country among
NJCAA programs; it transforms lives through a supportive and collabora-
tive learning environment that prioritizes completion and maximizes the
goal attainment of individual learners; and
WHEREAS, MCC collaborates with regional businesses and industries to
meet evolving workforce and employer needs within a global economic
context; it also participates in strategic alliances which closes gaps
within the education pipeline and helps leverage learner success; and
WHEREAS, Its foundation ranks first among SUNY community colleges for
unrestricted giving from private philanthropists and foundations, and
ranks second for total giving; and
WHEREAS, The community invests in its future leaders through the MCC
Foundation, as well as private public partnerships which enable the
college to remain innovative, grow programs, scholarship dollars for
students and enhance campus facilities; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of its President Anne M. Kress,
Ph.D. and Kenneth G. Goode, Chair of the Board of Trustees, MCC is a
leader in dual degree programs and articulation agreements with four-
year institutions within and outside of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Monroe Community College is a dynamic learning community
where access, excellence, and leadership are the College's hallmarks;
for the past five decades, nearly 458,000 students have attended MCC and
have stood faithful to its mission to educate and prepare diverse lear-
ners to achieve scholarly, professional, and individual success within a
local and global context; the College serves as a catalyst for inno-
vation, economic development, lifelong learning, and civic engagement;
and
WHEREAS, MCC's vision states it will champion opportunity, innovation,
and excellence to transform lives and communities; and
WHEREAS, Today, Monroe Community College continues to fulfill its
laudatory educational purposes, and eagerly fulfills its commitment to
its students, faculty, alumni and community; and

WHEREAS, Monroe Community College's plans for growth will ensure all
that work and attend the college will have multiple choices, and tremen-
dous opportunities for success, in the years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when an
educational institution of such noble aims and accomplishments is
brought to our attention, it should be recognized and applauded by all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Monroe Community College; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anne M. Kress, Ph.D., President of Monroe Community College
and Kenneth G. Goode, Chair of the Board of Trustees.
