LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Benjamin Moleno, Sr., long-
time Hewlett Fire Official, distinguished citizen and devoted member of
his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Benjamin Moleno, Sr. of Hewlett, New York, died on December
31, 2012, at the age of 92; and
WHEREAS, Born in Hewlett, New York, Benjamin Moleno, Sr. was the owner
of a Roosevelt laundry and dry cleaning business for 35 years, before
retiring in 1982; and
WHEREAS, Benjamin Moleno, Sr.'s commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Woodmere High School in 1938, Benjamin
Moleno, Sr. joined the Hewlett Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, A dedicated firefighter for 75 years, Benjamin Moleno, Sr.
rose through the ranks and served as Captain of the Hewlett Fire Depart-
ment; he also served as Commissioner of the Hewlett Bay Fire District
for 50 years and District Treasurer for 15 years; and
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, Benjamin Moleno, Sr. was still
serving as a member of the Legislative Committee of the New York State
Association of Fire Districts; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man was a founder of the Nassau Association
of Districts and served as its President in 1951; moreover, he was a New
York State President in 1970 and 1971, and in 2011, he was named an
Honorary Chief of the Department; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to serving his country, Benjamin Moleno, Sr. was
employed at Republic Aviation during much of World War II; and
WHEREAS, Benjamin Moleno, Sr. was a longtime communicant of St.
Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Hewlett, New York; in addition, he
served as a Hewlett Committeeman for more than 50 years; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Jean, Benjamin Moleno,
Sr. is survived by two sons, Benjamin, Jr. and Richard; one daughter,
Peggy; and six grandchildren, as well as six great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Benjamin Moleno, Sr. leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Benjamin Moleno, Sr., longtime Hewlett Fire Official,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Benjamin Moleno, Sr.
