LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Rush-
ville Lions Club

WHEREAS, Individuals and organizations who give of their time and ener-
gies and serve the best interests of their communities are an asset
beyond remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 60th Anniversary of the Rushville Lions Club; this auspicious
occasion will be celebrated on Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Kings Party
House in Canandaigua, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Rushville Lions Club is part of the largest service
organization in the world; Lions Club International is an organization
deeply committed to meeting the challenges of public service; and
WHEREAS, The goal of the Rushville Lions Club and the entire Lions
Organization is to evaluate the needs within the community, without
regard to politics, religion or race, and to support humanitarian
projects in response to those needs; and
WHEREAS, On May 18, 1953, the Rushville Lions Club was formed with 22
founding members; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of its current President, Dave Burley,
the Rushville Lions Club has been active in work with the blind and
visually impaired by doing vision screening and free eye exams, as well
as by providing glasses for the needy; and
WHEREAS, In addition, the Rushville Lions Club has been active in
hearing aid and battery collection, scholarships for local students,
building ramps for handicapped persons, sponsoring the local Scouting
troop, providing Christmas food baskets for the needy, participating in
the Memorial Day parade, the Conservation Club Campership, recycling
collections, the adopt-a-highway program and collecting food for Friend-
ship House; and
WHEREAS, The Rushville Lions Club also supports dog training schools
for disabled persons, Camp Badger, Vision/Services for the Blind and
Visually Impaired, the Batavia School for the Blind Activity Fund, the
New York and Bermuda Lions Foundation, the Lions Cubs International
Foundation, the Finger Lakes Region Lions Hearing Foundation and the
Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, The auspicious occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Rush-
ville Lions presents a unique opportunity for this Legislative Body to
recognize and pay tribute to the Rushville Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an organ-
ization of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Rushville Lions Club; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Rushville Lions Club.
