LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Major General John A. Leide, (Ret) upon
the occasion of his designation as 2013 Inductee into the Auburn Alumni
Hall of Distinction, on June 6, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and purposeful lives
of service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Major General John A. Leide upon the occasion of his designation as 2013
Inductee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction; the Induction Cere-
mony will take place on Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the Emerson Park
Pavilion in Auburn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction was established in 2012
by the Auburn Education Foundation to recognize, honor and celebrate
graduates who have distinguished themselves through outstanding academ-
ic, professional, or civic achievements and to inspire current students
to pursue a path towards personal success; and
WHEREAS, A man of singular merit, Major General John A. Leide, (Ret),
East High School Class of 1954, has continually demonstrated tremendous
competence, extraordinary intelligence and diligent leadership in his
unwavering service to both his community and his profession, and conse-
quently has been selected for this most prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, John A. Leide retired as a United States Army Major General
on August 1, 1995, after a distinguished 33-year military career; prior
to retirement he served as Director, National Military Intelligence
Collection Center (NMICC); Director, Central MASINT Office (CMO); Direc-
tor, Defense HUMINY Service (DHS), within the Defense Intelligence Agen-
cy; and
WHEREAS, Currently a senior consultant to a number of national and
international intelligence and security companies, after retiring from
the Army, Major General John Leide was appointed President of Global
Information Technologies strategic business unit within Electronic Data
Systems (EDS) where he served until joining Avenue Technologies, a
defense and security information superiority company as executive vice
president; and
WHEREAS, During his long and storied military career, Major General
John Leide served four combat tours, three as an airborne company
commander and the fourth as General Norman Schwarzkopf's Director of
Intelligence, J-2 for the Gulf War; in addition, he was Battalion
Commander, United States Army Special Forces and Military Intelligence
Group Commander; and
WHEREAS, Major General John Leide's numerous military awards and deco-
rations include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal with one oak
leaf cluster, Defense Superior Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters,
Legion of Merit with two oak leaf clusters, the Bronze Star for Valor
with three oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the
Army Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters; and
WHEREAS, Internationally respected and admired, Major General John
Leide was awarded the Liberation Medal first-class by the government of
Kuwait for his duties during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm;
he was awarded the highest Medal given to foreigners by the Chinese
People's Liberation Army (PLA) and, a Master Parachutist, was also
awarded the PLA parachutist certificate and badge; and
WHEREAS, Major General John Leide was inducted into the United States
Defense Attache Hall of Fame and has been awarded the Knowlton Medal by

the United States Army Military Intelligence Corps Association; he was
recently inducted into the United States Military Intelligence Hall of
Fame; and
WHEREAS, Major General John Leide earned a Bachelor of Science degree
from Georgetown University, and a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University
College of Law; he was also a Fellow at the Harvard University John
Fitzgerald Kennedy School of Government; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Major General John A. Leide, (Ret) upon the occasion of his desig-
nation as 2013 Inductee into the Auburn Alumni Hall of Distinction; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Major General John A. Leide.
