LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gregory Ahlquist upon the occasion of
his designation as 2013 New York State Teacher of the Year by the New
York State Board of Regents

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and character
whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gregory Ahlquist upon the occasion of his designation as 2013 New York
State Teacher of the Year by the New York State Board of Regents; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Ahlquist has contributed to the excellence and
success of his school and is the quintessential selection for the Teach-
er of the Year Award; and
WHEREAS, A 1991 Webster Thomas High School graduate, Gregory Ahlquist
has been teaching social studies in the Webster School District for 12
years; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Ahlquist has taught a variety of courses including
Advanced Placement (AP) world history, AP European history, and a Holo-
caust elective; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Gregory Ahlquist serves as lead teacher for the
entire AP program at Webster Thomas High School; and
WHEREAS, In 2004, the Webster Teachers Association, the teachers'
union, and Webster Central PTSA presented Gregory Ahlquist with its Oak
Tree Award for exemplary teaching at the secondary level; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Ahlquist received his bachelor's degree in history
with a minor in Medieval studies from SUNY Geneseo in 1995; he has
served as an adjunct lecturer at SUNY Geneseo, teaching humanities;
history courses and Latin for the past 16 years; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Amy and their two
children, Anna and Hope, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Gregory Ahlquist has continuously demonstrated an impressive
dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting enthusiasm for
the quality of the educational programs and opportunities offered at his
school; and
WHEREAS, Teachers like Gregory Ahlquist provide a tremendous service
to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring generations of young
people in their educational journeys and ensuring their success in their
future years; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gregory Ahlquist upon the occasion of his designation as 2013 New
York State Teacher of the Year by the New York State Board of Regents;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gregory Ahlquist.
