LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sandra H. Martin upon the occasion of
her retirement as President and CEO of Home Aides of Central New York

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those outstanding
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across the State of New
York are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Sandra Martin upon the occasion of her retirement as President and CEO
of Home Aides of Central New York, after 23 years of dedicated service
with the agency; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Syracuse University in 1973, Sandra
Martin devoted her entire career to the healthcare field, serving as an
effective leader at various organizations and businesses, such as
Upstate Medical University, Hospital Association of Central New York,
Inc. and Coopers & Lybrand in Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, In 1990, Sandra Martin joined Home Aides of Central New York
as President and CEO of the agency; and
WHEREAS, Home Aides of Central New York was established in 1966, to
assist in the home care of aging, ill and frail individuals, providing
these individuals with the physical and emotional support services they
and their families need, such as registered nurses, companions, caregiv-
er respite services, and medical alert services; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure at Home Aides of Central New York, Sandra
Martin has served as a tireless advocate for the elderly, frail and
disabled within the community, working diligently to expand the agency
in order to meet the needs of a growing elderly population; Home Aides
of Central New York presently employs more than 240 people, serves more
than 1,600 individuals, and is licensed to operate in six counties; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Sandra Martin was instrumental in forming the Elder-
care Foundation, which has helped raise significant donations to support
Home Aides of Central New York; since its inception, the Eldercare Foun-
dation has raised a significant amount in donations to keep valuable
programs and services operating; and
WHEREAS, For the past four decades, Sandra Martin has also served as
an active volunteer within the community and has advanced her education
by attending the New School for Social Research and Harvard Business
School; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Martin has consistently rendered conscientious and
valuable service to the Central New York community, while helping to
improve the quality of life of its citizenry; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sandra Martin upon the occasion of her retirement as President and
CEO of Home Aides of Central New York, after 23 years of dedicated
service with the agency; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sandra H. Martin.
