LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Kenneth S. Shaw upon the occasion
of celebrating his 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of knowledge to the increasingly
active roles they play in today's society; their past contributions and
future participation are a vital part of, and valuable asset to, the
fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Kenneth
S. Shaw upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday, to be celebrated with a
party held in his honor by the McLean Fire Department and the McLean
Community Church, on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the McLean Fire Station;
WHEREAS, Kenneth S. Shaw was born in Summerhill, New York, to Claude
and Bertha Shaw, on July 1, 1913; he was the third of five children; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Homer Academy on June 26, 1934, Kenneth
S. Shaw met and married his wife, Leila, in 1939; together they had two
sons, Kenneth Jr. and Douglas; today he is the loving grandfather of two
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth S. Shaw served his country as a member of the United
States Army during World War II; he was honorably discharged in 1945,
and two years later, purchased a home in McLean, New York, where he
still resides today; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth S. Shaw continues to drive to the McLean Community
Church every Sunday, the church he and his wife joined shortly after
settling in McLean, New York; in addition, he is on the board of trus-
tees of the McLean Cemetery Association; and
WHEREAS, Today, Kenneth S. Shaw is the last remaining charter member
of the McLean Fire Department, formed in 1947; although not active in
the department, he supports them in any way he can, and still comes to
every annual meeting and banquet; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends, and experi-
enced the incredible joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for
those with the stamina and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kenneth S. Shaw upon the occasion of his 100th Birthday;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kenneth S. Shaw.
