LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Jean Schelah for special recognition
after 60 years of service to the Cazenovia Fire Department and its
Ladies Auxiliary

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energy and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Jean Schelah has generously given not only of her time and
energy but also of her competence, intelligence, and leadership on
behalf of her community for many years; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Jean Schelah upon
the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the Cazenovia
Fire Department for her many years of dedicated service to the Depart-
ment and the Ladies Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, She will be honored at the Department's banquet to be held on
Friday, February 1, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Historically, the ladies auxiliary of a volunteer fire compa-
ny has been organized to assist, support, and encourage the fire company
in its good work; it is the aim of the ladies auxiliary to cultivate a
spirit of harmony, to promote sociability and to sustain the esteem and
admiration of the community in which it serves; and
WHEREAS, The Cazenovia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary carries out
these important functions in an exemplary manner, providing an invalu-
able service to the department and community; and
WHEREAS, Cazenovia Fire Department members truly appreciate the women
of the Ladies Auxiliary, knowing they will always be there providing
food and refreshments, as well as emotional support, to them on the
scene of emergencies; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to volunteer selflessly, supporting
and assisting the firefighters in the provision of fire protection and
prevention; and
WHEREAS, For 60 years Jean Schelah has willingly and enthusiastically
helped the Ladies Auxiliary carry out its accepted responsibilities and
has contributed extensively to the awareness and knowledge of her neigh-
bors and friends, and to the quality of their lives; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years she has always been one of the first to
volunteer to help with any or all functions; she has always supported
the Department in everything it does in addition to serving on various
committees throughout the years; and
WHEREAS, The Cazenovia Fire Department will proudly honor Jean Sche-
lah, recognizing this significant milestone at its banquet on February
1, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Jean Schelah's mother Marie was a founding member of the
Auxiliary; Jean joined the organization in July 1953 when she was a
teenager and proudly carried the banner on numerous occasions when
marching with the Auxiliary in parades; and
WHEREAS, Through her long and sustained commitment to the Cazenovia
Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary, Jean Schelah has exhibited
outstanding service and leadership in her beloved community and has
demonstrably advanced the perception of Cazenovia, New York, as a caring
and united community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Cazenovia Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and to pay trib-
ute to Jean Schelah upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Cazenovia Fire Department for 60 years of service to

the Cazenovia Fire Department and its Ladies Auxiliary; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jean Schelah.
