LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Teen Challenge Inc. of Brooklyn upon
the occasion of celebrating 55 years of service to the community

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Teen Challenge Inc. of Brooklyn upon the occasion of celebrating 55
years of service to the community; and
WHEREAS, The world transforming Life Training Center for those suffer-
ing from life-controlling habits celebrates 55 years of service, not
only to the Brooklyn community, but to the world; and
WHEREAS, Out of the humble beginnings of Teen Challenge in Brooklyn
were birthed success stories such as Nicky Cruz who defied the odds of
escaping the gang and drug life to become an accomplished author, film
maker and international evangelist; and
WHEREAS, Since 1958, Teen Challenge, started in Brooklyn, New York,
has seen remarkable growth; thousands of lives have been changed; the
Teen Challenge program now exists in 91 countries worldwide with invites
from 43 more countries who are asking for help; and
WHEREAS, There are approximately 202 centers in the United States and
1,060 around the world helping children, teens, men, women and families;
and
WHEREAS, Teen Challenge strives to help the whole person, not just the
substance abuser; what a transition the Clinton Hills community has seen
over the past 55 years, and through it all, Teen Challenge stands tall
to continue providing a place for those in the community to find freedom
from addiction and much more; and
WHEREAS, Teen Challenge not only provides food and shelter, but also
access to future opportunities through the re-entry program which builds
a bridge from the student's new life to the future; and
WHEREAS, The roots of Teen Challenge extend deep into the soil of
Brooklyn, New York; with over 300 of Brooklyn's marginalized citizens
served each month at the Brooklyn Teen Challenge Soup Kitchen and Food
Pantry, it remains a place of hope, first, for the Brooklyn community,
then for the world; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Teen Challenge Inc. of Brooklyn upon the occasion of celebrating
55 years of service to the community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Teen Challenge Inc. of Brooklyn.
