LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION recognizing Michael Daughtry upon the occasion of
his designation as a 2013 Veterans Day Distinguished Honoree

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Members and former members of the Armed Services of the
United States from the State of New York, who have served so valiantly
and honorably in wars in which this country's freedom was at stake, as
well as in the preservation of peace in peace time, deserve a special
salute from this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to recognize
Michael Daughtry upon the occasion of his designation as a 2013 Veterans
Day Distinguished Honoree; this auspicious occasion will be celebrated
on Veterans Day, November 11, 2013; and
WHEREAS, A Life Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA),
Michael Daughtry is 2nd Vice President of VVA Chapter 32, Queens, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Michael Daughtry is currently a national dele-
gate and New York State delegate for the VVA Board of Directors-elect
for VFW Post 4787, Whitestone, New York; and
WHEREAS, A member of the DAV, VFW, and American Legion, Michael Daugh-
try is very active in VVA chapter activities, the veterans community and
the advancement of veterans rights; and
WHEREAS, The active duty United States Army career of Michael Daughtry
began in 1967; he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, D Compa-
ny, 1st Battalion, 501st infantry; and
WHEREAS, Michael Daughtry deployed to Vietnam in December 1967; he was
seriously wounded in action in mid-1967, and spent one and a half years
recuperating from his wounds in St. Alban's Hospital in Queens, New
York; and
WHEREAS, During his distinguished military service, Michael Daughtry
was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation
Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge, Good Conduct Medal, Viet-
nam Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Presidential Unit
Citation and National Defense Medal; and
WHEREAS, Michael Daughtry worked for General Motors for 32 years until
his retirement five years ago; and
WHEREAS, Michael Daughtry and his wife of 46 years, Diane, are the
proud parents of three children; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his military, professional
and community service, a period of constructive involvement, Michael
Daughtry has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has
earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends;
and
WHEREAS, Our veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and thanked
by the people of the State of New York for their service and for their
dedication; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize Michael Daughtry upon the occasion of his designation as a
2013 Veterans Day Distinguished Honoree; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Daughtry.
