LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Mary M. Parry for 72 years of distin-
guished service to The United Service Organizations (USO)

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Mary M. Parry
for her more than 70 years of distinguished service to the USO; and
WHEREAS, In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt brought together a
number of agencies to form the United Service Organizations (USO), with
the objective of providing emotional support to troops and their fami-
lies; and
WHEREAS, Mary M. Parry has played an active role in the USO since its
formation; beginning with her involvement in 1941, as a teenager at the
Sampson Naval Base's USO at Seneca Lake and eventually going to work at
the Seneca Ordinance Depot; and
WHEREAS, In 1959, Mary M. Parry and her husband, Walter, moved to
Watertown and became involved with the local USO, where Mary oversaw
operations of the facility which served reserve soldiers at what was
then called "Camp Drum"; and
WHEREAS, Since then, Mary M. Parry has continued to be a dedicated,
dependable and loyal USO volunteer, inspiring others to join the cause,
and supporting our Nation's brave troops and their families by lifting
their spirits and providing them with a "home away from home"; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mary M. Parry for her 72 years of distinguished service to the
USO; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mary M. Parry.
