LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Nestor Hernandez upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Community Leadership Award by the
Federal Bureau of Investigation

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Nestor Hernandez has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Nestor Hernan-
dez upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Community
Leadership Award by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI); and
WHEREAS, The Community Leadership Award is given annually to individ-
uals or organizations working to combat crime or providing violence and
civil rights education to the community they serve; and
WHEREAS, The FBI presented Nestor Hernandez with this illustrious
award in December of 2012 for his outstanding work with the FBI's Safe
Streets Task Force, a group formed to reduce gang violence across the
City of Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Through his hard work and dedication, Nestor Hernandez
increased the staffing of the Belle Center from five full-time employees
to more than 90 during his time as the center's director; and
WHEREAS, Nestor Hernandez has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Nestor Hernandez has also served as an AmeriCorps National
Service Director, a United States Army Reserves Civil Affairs Staff
Sergeant, and is currently the Associate Vice President for People Inc.;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Nestor Hernandez has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Nestor Hernandez has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Nestor Hernandez upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Community Leadership Award by the Federal Bureau of Investi-
gation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nestor Hernandez.
