LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Orange Regional Medical Center upon
the occasion of its designation by the Mental Health Association in
Orange County, Inc. as the recipient of its 2013 Corporate Bell Award on
February 2, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organiza-
tions, businesses, and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Orange Regional Medical Center upon the occasion of its designation by
the Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. (MHA) as the
recipient of its 2013 Corporate Bell Award; and
WHEREAS, The Mental Health Association of Orange County seeks to
promote the positive mental health and emotional well-being of Orange
County residents, working toward reducing the stigma of mental illness
and developmental disabilities, and providing support to victims of
sexual assault and other crimes; and
WHEREAS, Working in partnership with service recipients, families,
volunteers and the community, MHA strives to fulfill its mission through
advocacy, direct service, education and information dissemination; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Mental Health Association in Orange County,
Inc. proudly honors outstanding organizations, businesses, and members
of the community who give unselfishly of themselves to help make the
lives of others fulfilling, recognizing them for their dedication to the
community and their commitment to MHA's mission; and
WHEREAS, Orange Regional Medical Center (ORMC) will be honored by the
Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. with its prestigious
Corporate Bell Award at its 2013 Silver Ball to be held on Saturday,
February 2, 2013, at the Round Hill House in Washingtonville, New York;
and
WHEREAS, ORMC was formed by the merger of Arden Hill Hospital and
Horton Medical Center and moved the two campuses into a single-site,
new, state-of-the-art facility on August 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS, This was the first new hospital built in New York State in
over 20 years and boasts seven floors of state-of-the-art technology,
provides 353 private patient rooms and employs over 2,400 healthcare
professionals; and
WHEREAS, More than 600 doctors have privileges at the hospital and
treat thousands of area families, friends and neighbors; in addition to
the main hospital campus, ORMC offers several outpatient locations; and
WHEREAS, Over this past year, ORMC served more than 20,000 inpatients,
delivered over 1,700 babies and treated over 66,000 patients in the
emergency department; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, the Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc.
(MHA) and the former Horton Hospital partnered with the Orange County
District Attorney's Office and created Orange County's first Sexual
Assault Examiners (SANE) Program which was originally located at Horton
Hospital; and
WHEREAS, The SANE Program's cornerstone services include specially
trained nurses who provide forensic evidence collection and treatment
for survivors of rape, sexual assault and incest; and
WHEREAS, Since the program's inception, hospital administrators have
designated key hospital personnel who have become SANE Program Liaisons

who continue to work with MHA staff to assist with overseeing the hospi-
tal's role in delivering compassionate and quality care; and
WHEREAS, In addition, ORMC has served as active members to SART (Sexu-
al Assault Response Team) and have assisted with providing facilitation
of meetings, meeting space, and support with finding relevant speakers;
and
WHEREAS, ORMC's leadership and vision in serving victims of rape and
sexual abuse have been instrumental in helping MHA deliver the full
range of services needed by rape survivors; and
WHEREAS, For the past 8 years, ORMC has provided MHA's Family Support
Program and the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) family
members the opportunity to provide a presence outside the behavioral
health unit offering people visiting their loved ones information,
resources and support; and
WHEREAS, Many referrals come to Family Support through this program
known as the "Families Helping Families Program"; as a result of the
success and interest in this program, NAMI volunteers now facilitate 2
new support groups for families; and
WHEREAS, Historically, ORMC has been a recognized leader in behavioral
health services in Orange County and offers a full scope of programs for
adults and children with serious mental illness, emotional disturbances,
or substance abuse; and
WHEREAS, ORMC's professionals assist with chemical dependencies, mood
disorders, emotional disturbances, learning disabilities, behavior prob-
lems and related illnesses through outpatient and inpatient services;
MHA and the Helpline staff frequently refer individuals experiencing a
mental health crisis to ORMC as one of our county's leading 24 hour
mental health units; and
WHEREAS, Orange Regional Medical Center has been a supporter of the
Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. for many years; as a
dedicated community partner, it has helped MHA and its programs to
flourish, greatly enriching the lives of countless others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
recognize Orange Regional Medical Center for its unwavering commitment
to the Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. as it provides
an uncompromising standard of excellence in the delivery of superlative
service to the communities and citizens it so ably serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when businesses
of such noble accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should
be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of
New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Orange Regional Medical Center upon the occasion of its desig-
nation by the Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. as the
recipient of its 2013 Corporate Bell Award on February 2, 2013; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Orange Regional Medical Center.
