LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Donald McKinley Allen,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
Slate of New York; and
WHEREAS, Donald McKinley Allen of Binghamton, New York, died on
Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the age of 67; and
WHEREAS, Donald McKinley Allen was a graduate of Stuyvesant High
School and Brooklyn College; and
WHEREAS, Donald McKinley Allen distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, After his retirement, Donald McKinley Allen's new commitment
became his involvement with Binghamton University's radio station WHRW,
where he was able to express his love for music and his opinions on
politics; and
WHEREAS, Donald McKinley Allen's dedication to the station and its
staff knew no bounds; and
WHEREAS, Donald McKinley Allen's commitment to excellence, and his
spirit of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, includ-
ing charitable and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being a devoted father and husband, Donald
McKinley Allen was a man of many talents and interests, including a
house designer/builder, craft-show promoter/maestro, set designer,
jeweler, cook/baker, photographer and sailor/navigator; and
WHEREAS, Donald McKinley Allen was also a recreational inventor, writ-
er and poet, philosopher, musicologist, film and art aficionado, teacher
of everything and lover of history; and
WHEREAS, He was intellectually curious, a storyteller, a political
commentator, a leader and a fixer of everything; he loved travel and
adventure, and was very committed to the study of Judaism, as well as
the practice of meditation; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Hank and Edna Appleman and his
brother, William Appleman, Donald McKinley Allen is survived by his
wife, Heidi Kaufmann; daughter, Rachel Allen; in-laws, Leslie and Don,
Jeff and Linda, Gary and Connie, Greg and Nancy, Hilary, Craig; special
nieces and nephews, Dana and Spencer, Erin and Mark, Crystal and Shana,
Wiley and Sydney, Ryan, Avalon, Bella, and Marcus; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Donald McKinley Allen leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Donald McKinley Allen, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution; suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Donald McKinley Allen.
