LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Alfred G. Myhill upon the occasion of
his being named 2012 Fulton Veteran of the Year
WHEREAS, Members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who
have served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's
freedom was at stake, deserve a special salute from this Legislative
Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend those
who have served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to join the Fulton
Veterans Council in honoring Alfred G. Myhill upon the occasion of his
being named 2012 Veteran of the Year at a ceremony held on Veterans Day
2012 at the Fulton City Hall; and
WHEREAS, Alfred G. Myhill honorably served his country as a member of
the Medical Corps during World War II, landing in Normandy when he was
just 19 years-old; and
WHEREAS, Assigned to the first Platoon, 53rd Field Hospital in Europe,
Alfred G. Myhill and his unit set up field hospitals in England, Norman-
dy, Northern France, Belgium and Germany in 1944-1945 as they followed
Patton's Third Army across Europe and treated the wounded at the Battle
of the Bulge; and
WHEREAS, Alfred G. Myhill was chosen for appointment to the French
Foreign Legion of Honor by the French Republic in 2011; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious honor was bestowed in infinite gratitude and
appreciation of the French people for his contribution to the liberation
of France during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with which men and women like Alfred Myhill served their country, and
must recognize that no greater debt is owed than that owed to those who
risked their lives for their beloved Nation; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Alfred G. Myhill has demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
join the French Republic in honoring Alfred G. Myhill upon the occasion
of his being named the 2012 Fulton Veteran of the Year; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Alfred G. Myhill.
