LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Ellen Shapiro Lepor upon the occa-
sion of her designation as recipient of the Humanitarian Award by the
Aleh Foundation

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Ellen
Shapiro Lepor upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Humanitarian Award by the Aleh Foundation, to be celebrated at its 29th
Anniversary Awards Dinner Ceremony on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the
Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ellen Shapiro Lepor is a Professor and Director of Pedia-
tric Urology Department of NYU Urology Associates; she is a recognized
leader in the treatment of neonatal and pediatric urologic diseases; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Ellen Shapiro Lepor has published over 100 original arti-
cles and numerous chapters and has presented over 100 clinical and
scientific papers at national and international meetings; she has won
seven major awards in urologic research including the prestigious Franc-
es F. Schwentker Award in Laboratory Research from the Johns Hopkins
Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Shapiro is an expert and leading investigator in the
development of the human genitourinary tract; she has served on the
examination committee of the American Board of Urology and the American
Urological Association and as a committee member for special urologic
grant reviews at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases at the NIH; she is also an active member of the American
Urological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on
Urology, the American College of Surgeons, the Society for Pediatric
Urology, the Society for Fetal Urology, the American Association of
Pediatric Urologists and the Association of Genitourinary Reconstructive
Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, Herbert, who feels
privileged to he a part of her life and rejoices in her achievements;
and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Dr. Ellen Shapiro Lepor's distin-
guished record merits the recognition and respectful tribute of this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Ellen Shapiro Lepor upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Humanitarian Award by the Aleh Foundation; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Ellen Shapiro Lepor.
