LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Mineola High School student-ath-
lete Matthew Long upon the occasion of winning his 100th career wrestl-
ing match
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Mineola High School student-athlete Matthew Long upon the occasion
of winning his 100th career wrestling match on Saturday, January 12,
2013; and
WHEREAS, One hundred wins is a rare feat for someone in a small-school
Division II team who averages only 36 matches per season; he also has a
chance of beating the current 15-year school record of 116 varsity wres-
tling wins; and
WHEREAS, In addition to serving as captain of the varsity team for the
last two years, Matthew Long was named All-Conference in 2009, County
Champion in 2011 and 2012, and MVP of the Division II teams in 2012; and
WHEREAS, If Matthew Long completes the current season as County Cham-
pion for 2013, he will then hold the school record for most consecutive
county wins in wrestling as well; and
WHEREAS, Matthew Long's overall record is outstanding; he was loyally
and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the communi-
ty at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Matthew Long has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his/her school; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mineola High School student-athlete Matthew Long upon the
occasion of winning his 100th career wrestling match; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Matthew Long.
