LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mario Bruno, Jr. upon the occasion of
his designation as the recipient of the IBG Public Service Award by the
Italian Board of Guardians on May 29, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organizations
and individuals who distinguish themselves in their profession and in
service to their community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Mario Bruno, Jr., Assistant Commissioner of New York City Department of
Environmental Protection, upon the occasion of his designation as the
recipient of the IBG Public Service Award by the Italian Board of Guard-
ians to be celebrated at its 78th Annual Bishop's Gala on Thursday, May
29, 2014, at Russo's on the Bay in Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Italian Board of Guardians, located in Bensonhurst,
Brooklyn, New York, is a non-profit social services agency, affiliated
with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Brooklyn and Queens, and a
member agency of both United Way of New York City, and the Human
Services Council; and
WHEREAS, Since 1936, its mission is dedicated to addressing the social
needs of communities and individuals throughout the Greater New York
Metropolitan area, regardless of race, gender, age, creed, or ethnic
origin; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Italian Board of Guardians gratefully acknowl-
edges those who support and work on behalf of its worthy endeavors; a
man of singular distinction, Mario Bruno, Jr., a native of Brooklyn, New
York, has continually demonstrated extreme competence, extraordinary
intelligence and diligent leadership in his unwavering service to his
community as well as his profession; and
WHEREAS, For over 28 years Mario Bruno, Jr. has worked in the fields
of infrastructure engineering, public administration, intergovernmental
relationships, political campaign management, and strategic communi-
cations; and
WHEREAS, During his illustrious political career, Mario Bruno, Jr.
served as State Campaign Manager for United States Senator John McCain's
2000 presidential campaign, and as State Executive Director for the 2007
presidential campaign of New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani; and
WHEREAS, In New York City, Mario Bruno, Jr. also served as a key poli-
tical strategist and adviser to Congressmen, District Attorneys, Borough
Presidents, State Senators, and Chief Judge of the New York State Court
of Claims; and
WHEREAS, Mario Bruno, Jr. became a mechanical engineer by education
and training, having graduated from Polytechnic Institute of New York;
for over 10 years, he served as an engineer for New York City Department
of Transportation, where he became an expert in bridges and tunnels;
furthermore, he served as Executive Vice President of the GA Group, a
public engineering firm that provided services such as structural and
civil design, land surveying, environmental engineering, and public
school construction management; and
WHEREAS, As a public administrator, Mario Bruno, Jr. served with New
York City Department of Youth & Community Development for 12 years,
where he worked as Assistant Commissioner for After School Programs,
running the largest municipal after school program in the United States;
he also served on a Mayoral Task Force to develop Mayor Bloomberg's own
after school initiative, the Out of School Time program; and

WHEREAS, In 2013, Mario Bruno, Jr. joined the New York City Department
of Environmental Protection, the largest municipal water and wastewater
utility in the United States, and currently serves as Assistant Commis-
sioner for Intergovernmental Affairs, dealing with elected officials and
legislative affairs at every level of government, both in New York City
and in the areas of upstate New York where New York City's watersheds
are located; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Beata, their daugh-
ter, Marlena, and parents, Audrey and Mario Bruno, as well as two broth-
ers, Michael and Frank, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his
life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Despite his busy professional life, Mario Bruno, Jr. has been
called upon to contribute his time and talents to countless civic and
charitable endeavors and has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals who have distinguished themselves in their profession and have
faithfully served the needs of their community with diligence and
compassionate commitment to improving the quality and dignity of life in
the community are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated
and recognized by all the citizens of the great State of New York; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mario Bruno, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as the
recipient of the IBG Public Service Award by the Italian Board of Guard-
ians on May 29, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mario Bruno, Jr.
