LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Korean Apparel Manufacturers Asso-
ciation of Greater New York upon the occasion of hosting its 2nd Annual
New York Korean Fashion Festival and 6th Annual Fashion Scholarship
Competition

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, in keeping with its
time-honored traditions, to recognize and pay tribute to those organiza-
tions, which foster ethnic pride and enhance the profile of cultural
diversity which strengthens the fabric of the communities of New York
State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Korean
Apparel Manufacturers Association of Greater New York upon the occasion
of hosting its 2nd Annual New York Korean Fashion Festival and 6th Annu-
al Fashion Scholarship Competition, on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at
YOTEL New York in New York City; and
WHEREAS, The Annual New York Korean Fashion Festival is comprised of
various seminars, forums, networking opportunities, and four different
fashion shows, which feature designers from all over the world including
Korea and the United States; and
WHEREAS, A major center for world fashion trends and the fashion
industry, New York City has been one of the economic foundations of the
Korean American community; the Korean Apparel Manufacturers Association
of Greater New York (KAMANY) is a non-profit organization which was
organized in March of 1981; and
WHEREAS, KAMANY was created to protect the rights of Korean Americans
in the apparel business; since its inception, it has grown exponentially
and now has more than 100 members experienced and specializing in every
type of garment; and
WHEREAS, KAMANY has been a strong advocate for Korean American design-
ers and garment business owners by representing their points of view; it
also pursues the concerns of its members and ensures that individuals
employed in the apparel manufacturing industries are afforded equal
opportunities and are treated with fairness and respect; and
WHEREAS, KAMANY is committed to promote and enhance its members
competitiveness, productivity and profitability in the global market by
providing an array of services and business resources for all garment
manufacturing projects; in addition, it conducts seminars on various
issues, practices and regulations affecting the fashion industry and
discovers talented students to help them become global fashion design-
ers; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of its current President, Mr. Woo
Chon Kwak, KAMANY has been hosting its annual golf tournament since 2008
where all tournament proceeds go to the Korean Apparel Manufacturers
Association Fashion Scholarship Fund; this fund's purpose is to award
and assist emerging Korean-American fashion students; and
WHEREAS, Through its scholarship programs and community participation,
KAMANY has encouraged a new generation of Korean fashion designers and
entrepreneurs to succeed in the fashion industry and continue to add to
the diversity of commerce in the great state of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Korean Apparel Manufacturers Association of Greater New York
upon the occasion of hosting its 2nd Annual New York Korean Fashion

Festival and 6th Annual Fashion Scholarship Competition; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mr. Woo Chon Kwak, President, KAMANY.
