LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Andrew W. Lawrence upon the occasion of
his designation as Grand Marshal of the 79th Annual Huntington St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 10, 2013

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time for people of all nationalities and
generations to assemble and celebrate the rich culture and heritage of
Irish people throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland, and provides an opportunity
for people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Andrew W. Lawrence upon the occasion of his designation as Grand Marshal
of the 79th Annual Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March
10, 2013; and
WHEREAS, For 79 years, the Huntington Ancient Order of Hibernians St.
Patrick's Day Parade has remained dedicated to promoting Irish heritage
and culture, family, and patriotic values; and
WHEREAS, Andrew W. Lawrence is an almost lifetime Huntingtonian,
having moved there at the age of seven with his father, Dr. Andrew
Lawrence; he spent seven years at St. Patrick's, four years at Chami-
nade, and then four years at Marquette University; and
WHEREAS, He went on to become a decorated Marine Captain in Vietnam;
after leaving active duty, he returned to Huntington to go to law school
at St. John's University, while at the same time, serving in the active
Marine reserves, serving as the Acting Commanding Officer of the Marine
Corps reserve unit in Halesite; and
WHEREAS, After graduation from law school, he worked in the Suffolk
County District Attorney's office as a Senior Assistant District Attor-
ney in the Major Crimes Bureau, prosecuting many high profile cases;
since the late 1970s, he has been a Special Assistant District Attorney
as well as a Village Prosecutor for the Village of Huntington Bay; and
WHEREAS, Andrew W. Lawrence was a partner, for many years, in the old
Huntington law firm of TOAZ, BUCK, MYERS; he has served as general coun-
sel over many years for many clients, including the Cold Spring Harbor
Laboratory, the Visiting Nurse Service, Huntington Hospital, and various
area villages, fire departments, and public libraries; and
WHEREAS, Active in his profession, Andrew W. Lawrence has served on
the Suffolk County Bar Association's Grievance, Ethics, Court and Crimi-
nal Law Committees; and
WHEREAS, Active in his community as well, he has served on the Board
of Directors of the St. Patrick's Parish Council, Huntington Hospital,
Huntington Chamber of Commerce, Family Service League, Huntington
Historic Society, Huntington Housing Help, the Townwide Fund and St.
Johnland Nursing Center, serving each as an officer, including Vice
President or President; and
WHEREAS, Andrew W. Lawrence has fittingly been honored with Huntington
Hospital's Teddy Award and the Visiting Nurse Service's Man of the Year
Award and has twice been honored by the Townwide Fund; and
WHEREAS, Andrew W. Lawrence and his wife Pam, a retired teacher and
lifetime Huntingtonian, are the proud parents of two sons, A.J. and
Brendan, and a daughter, Kerry, and her husband Matt Ross, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and

WHEREAS, Joining Andrew W. Lawrence in the parade, as his aides, will
be his lifelong friends and Huntingtonians, John "Jay" Cavanagh, Andrew
J. Schmitz and John Dooley; and
WHEREAS, Andrew W. Lawrence's distinguished record on behalf of his
family, profession, heritage and community merits the recognition and
respectful tribute of this Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 79th Annual Huntington St. Patrick's Day Parade on March
10, 2013, and to honor Andrew W. Lawrence upon the occasion of his
designation as Grand Marshal of the Parade; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andrew W. Lawrence.
