LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Jack's
Oyster House of Albany, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly recognize those businesses within the State of New York which
have positively impacted their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Jack's Oyster House of Albany, New York;
and
WHEREAS, A family-owned restaurant, Jack's Oyster House is a fixture
in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Today, Jack's Oyster House is owned by Brad Rosenstein, the
paternal grandson of Jack Rosenstein who opened the restaurant on Janu-
ary 24, 1913, on Beaver Street in downtown Albany; it moved to its
current location at 42 State Street in 1937; and
WHEREAS, Jack Rosenstein launched the restaurant when he was 20 years
old with four hundred dollars that he had saved since starting as a
newsboy at age nine and then as an oyster shucker at the famed Keeler's
Hotel; and
WHEREAS, Every New York Governor since William Sulzer has dined at
Jack's Oyster House along with many celebrities such as Hillary Rodham
Clinton, John F. Kennedy Jr., Sugar Ray Leonard, Colin Powell, and
Robert Goulet; and
WHEREAS, Since its establishment, it is estimated that patrons of
Jack's Oyster House have consumed over 10 million oysters; and
WHEREAS, Known for its exceptional service and quality, Jack's Oyster
House serves lunch and dinner every day of the year; and
WHEREAS, Over the past century, Jack's Oyster House has been closed
for only one day--for 92-year-old Jack Rosenstein's funeral in 1986; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize and
support the entrepreneurs of small businesses whose dedication and
accomplishments contribute to the economic health and vitality of the
communities they serve in the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Jack's Oyster House of Albany, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jack's Oyster House, Albany, New York.
