LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Hilda Rogers upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Zeta Zeta Lambda Chapter of
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Hilda Rogers upon the occasion of her designation for special recogni-
tion by the Zeta Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
to be celebrated on Saturday, June 21, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Hilda Rogers was born and raised in Bessemer, Alabama, and
received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Knoxville College with addi-
tional studies at New York University; and
WHEREAS, A gifted administrator, Hilda Rogers worked for the New York
City Housing Authority for 32 years; during this time she held such
important positions as Staff Representative for the Department of Commu-
nity Affairs and Assistant Chief of the Drug Elimination Program; in
2002, she retired from the Housing Authority as Director of the Manhat-
tanville Community Center; and
WHEREAS, Since July 2010, this esteemed woman has served as Executive
Director of Alpha Phi Alpha Senior Citizens Center in Cambria Heights,
New York, where her outstanding character and intelligence have left an
indelible mark; and
WHEREAS, Hilda Rogers eloquently demonstrated her organizational
skills by working with her fellow senior center directors to campaign
against threatened closures due to future state and city budgetary
shortfalls; and
WHEREAS, Hilda Rogers is a member of multiple civic and professional
organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and the Queens
Botanical Gardens, where she is Assistant Treasurer; she also serves as
a member of the Board of Directors at the Queens Sickle Cell Advocacy
Network and Charles R. Drew Early Learning Center; and
WHEREAS, A proud member of the NAACP, Hilda Rogers' volunteer service
with the organization spans 38 years; she served admirably as President
of the New York City Housing Authority Branch and as Regional Director
of the Metropolitan Council of NAACP Branches; in addition, she has
served on the NAACP's National Nominating Committee and the National
Election Supervisory Committee, as well as the Northeast Region Direc-
tor; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has been the recipient of numerous
awards and honors, including the Outstanding Achievement Award from the
New York City Housing Authority Guardians; the NAACP New York State
Conference E.T. Reed Award; and the New York City Commission on the
Status of Women Award and Community Service Award; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Hilda Rogers has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend individ-
uals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commitment
toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting as
role models of leadership to be emulated by both peers and young people;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Hilda Rogers upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Zeta Zeta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraterni-
ty Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hilda Rogers.
