LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James A. Strauss upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition as one of the founding members
of the Greece Lake Shore Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
James A. Strauss upon the occasion of his designation for special recog-
nition as one of the founding members of the Greece Lake Shore Fire
Department; and
WHEREAS, James A. Strauss joined the Grand View Heights Fire Depart-
ment on November 1, 1953; during his tenure with the Department he
served as its President; and
WHEREAS, Instrumental in the founding of the Greece Lake Shore Fire
Department in 1978, James A. Strauss has served as Chaplin since the
inception of the Department; he also served as its Treasurer for over 20
years; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Greece Lake Shore Fire Department for over 59
years, James A. Strauss is also a member of the Fire Police; and
WHEREAS, James A. Strauss has provided invaluable counsel, guidance
and support for generations of Fire Chiefs, line officers, firefighters
and Fire District commissioners; he has been influential in the recruit-
ment of new volunteers, as well as in enhancing the morale of Department
members and their families; and
WHEREAS, As one of the most beloved members of the Greece Lake Shore
Fire Department, James A. Strauss is always there for those who need him
whether providing guidance to officers, advice to fellow members, or a
smile and a kind word for someone in need; and
WHEREAS, James A. Strauss is the father of two sons, Timothy and
James, and has three beloved grandchildren and four great grandchildren;
and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; James
A. Strauss is such a firefighter; throughout his years of devoted
service, this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call
of duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire
protection; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James A. Strauss upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition as one of the founding members of the Greece Lake Shore Fire
Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter James A. Strauss.
