LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Outgoing President Captain Kevin
Connell upon the completion of his outstanding service as President of
the North Lindenhurst Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Outgoing President
Captain Kevin Connell upon the occasion of his outstanding service as
President of the North Lindenhurst Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell will be honored at the Department's 56th Annual
Installation Dinner to be held at the Long Island Marriott in Uniondale,
New York on Saturday, March 23, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Outgoing President Kevin Connell joined the North Lindenhurst
Fire Department on March 13, 1972; his father John Connell was also a
member and his influence contributed to Kevin's interest in fire
service; Kevin's son Christopher is a third generation volunteer member
and is presently an Ex-Captain of Engine Company No. 2; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell has held several positions in the North Linden-
hurst Fire Department; in 1975 he was elected Lieutenant of the North
Lindenhurst Fire Department Drill Team and, in 1976, he was elected to
the position of Captain; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Kevin Connell continues to play a major role and
be a major influence with the Piston Knockers Drill Team and its histo-
ry; and
WHEREAS, In 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998 the Piston Knockers earned the
title of New York State Champions; Kevin Connell is justly proud of the
Piston Knockers' accomplishments and works constantly preparing the team
for success meeting their goals each season; and
WHEREAS, The Executive Board of the North Lindenhurst Fire Department
has also benefited from Kevin Connell's service as a Trustee, 2nd Vice
President, 1st Vice President and President; and
WHEREAS, In December 2011, Kevin Connell was again elected to the
position of President; he has also served on numerous committees and his
leadership on the Executive Board has contributed significantly to the
successful growth of the North Lindenhurst Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Kevin Connell and his wife, Carol live in North Lindenhurst
where they enjoy spending time with their three grandsons; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Kevin
Connell is such a firefighter; throughout 41 years of devoted service,
Kevin Connell has heroically performed, above and beyond the call of
duty, those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Outgoing President Captain Kevin Connell upon the completion of
his outstanding service as President of the North Lindenhurst Fire
Department; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kevin Connell.
