LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Cindy and Jeremy Merrill upon the
occasion of their designation as the Community Service Honorees at the
32nd Annual Dinner of Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst on April 14,
2013

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Empire State are
greatly enriched by the faithful and generous service of those who
devote themselves to endeavors of family, faith and community; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals of such magnanimous conduct and bearing who demon-
strate a deep and continuing concern for others, and in so doing,
inspire others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Cindy and Jeremy Merrill upon the occasion of their designation as the
Community Service Honorees at the 32nd Annual Dinner of Young Israel of
Lawrence-Cedarhurst, to be held at Congregation Beth Sholom in Lawrence
on Sunday, April 14, 2013; and
WHEREAS, In honoring Cindy and Jeremy Merrill, Young Israel of
Lawrence-Cedarhurst (YILC) recognizes a couple who have a long associ-
ation with the synagogue and pays fitting tribute to them for their
tireless efforts on behalf of the shul and the community; and
WHEREAS, Cindy and Jeremy Merrill have been an integral part of Young
Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst since they moved to the Five Towns in 1999
and are providing renewed vitality to the Shul; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after moving in, Jeremy Merrill served as YILC's
youth director; subsequently, Cindy and Jeremy with a few other fami-
lies, and with the help of Rabbi Teitelbaum, started the Young Couples'
minyan; Jeremy served as the first gabbai and Cindy arranged social
events for the Young Couples' minyan; and
WHEREAS, Recently Cindy Merrill served as one of YILC's sisterhood
presidents and Jeremy Merrill remains active in the shul, having recent-
ly joined the Youth Committee; and
WHEREAS, Cindy and Jeremy Merrill have been married for 14 years and
are the proud parents of seven year old twins Erin and Kayla, who are in
second grade at HAFTR, and four year old Sam who will be attending the
Tifferet Academy in the Fall; and
WHEREAS, Jeremy Merrill grew up in Jamaica Estates, attended Queens
College and earned his Master of Business Administration degree from The
City University of New York's Baruch College; he has been working in
health administration ever since; and
WHEREAS, Cindy Merrill grew up in Woodmere; she attended Yeshiva
Universty's Stern College and earned a masters degree in Early and
Elementary Education at Adelphi University; she has worked for six years
at the HALB Preschool in Hewlett; and
WHEREAS, In addition to these responsibilities, Cindy and Jeremy
Merrill currently own the baby gift store Dimples; and
WHEREAS, The shul is the common spiritual home of a congregation; in
it rests the heritage of the Jewish people and from it stems the teach-
ing and the practice of its treasured values and traditions; and
WHEREAS, In recognizing Cindy and Jeremy Merrill for their many years
of inspirational and devoted service to the synagogue, Young Israel of
Lawrence-Cedarhurst proudly honors a couple who exemplify the highest
aims and ideals of the Young Israel movement, adherence to Torah and
mitzvot, maintenance of the traditions of the Jewish people, both at
home and in the land of Israel, and commitment to their community and
American society; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the course of their service to Young Israel of
Lawrence-Cedarhurst, Cindy and Jeremy Merrill have exhibited uncommon
valor and wisdom; their involvement and leadership have been character-
ized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncom-
promising standard of excellence in all their endeavors on behalf of the
synagogue; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to extend its highest commen-
dation to Cindy and Jeremy Merrill for their dedication and commitment
to their community and their heritage; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to Cindy and Jeremy Merrill upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as the Community Service Honorees at the 32nd Annual Dinner of
Young Israel of Lawrence-Cedarhurst on April 14, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Cindy and Jeremy Merrill.
