LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Gunther Cassell of Huntington High
School upon the occasion of capturing the 2013 New York State 100-yard
breaststroke championship

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic performance; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
congratulate Gunther Cassell of Huntington High School upon the occasion
of capturing the 2013 New York State 100-yard breaststroke championship;
and
WHEREAS, On March 2, 2013, Gunther Cassell, a sophomore at Huntington
High School, triumphed in the 100-yard breaststroke finals at the
Webster Aquatic Center in Rochester, New York, to win the New York State
championship; and
WHEREAS, Gunther Cassell's championship performance time of 56.24
seconds set a New York State record; this victory was his second consec-
utive New York State title in this event; and
WHEREAS, Seeded fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke event as he
entered the state championships, Gunther Cassell won a pair of gold
medals for winning both the New York State Public High School Athletic
Association and State Federation titles; and
WHEREAS, Gunther Cassell is Huntington High School's only boys' New
York State swimming champion; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Gunther Cassell's dedication to swim-
ming is a year-round, everyday commitment; he is highly focused and has
developed a matchless work ethic; and
WHEREAS, Gunther Cassell's exemplary performance is reflective of his
dedication, determination and personal commitment; his achievements
stand as a hallmark of what is best in the families, schools and commu-
nities across New York State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Gunther Cassell of Huntington High School upon the occasion
of capturing the 2013 New York State 100-yard breaststroke championship,
and to commend him for the enduring honor he has brought to his family,
his school and his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gunther Cassell.
