LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Young Israel of Merrick upon the occa-
sion of hosting its 25th Anniversary Jubilee Journal Dinner and honoring
Susan and Avi Abikzer for special recognition

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commending Young
Israel of Merrick upon the occasion of hosting its 25th Anniversary
Jubilee Journal Dinner and honoring Susan and Avi Abikzer for special
recognition on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at the Sephardic Temple in Cedar-
hurst, New York; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Rabbi Marc S. Volk, Young
Israel of Merrick is an orthodox synagogue and community located in
Merrick, Long Island, New York; and
WHEREAS, A warm and active center of Jewish life, Young Israel of
Merrick offers a wide range of religious, educational, and social activ-
ities; and
WHEREAS, Young Israel of Merrick supports its mission to promote Torah
lifestyle within the community; this vital organization strives to
attract, welcome, and inspire every Jewish person to continually
increase his or her knowledge of Torah, thereby enhancing Jewish life
and strengthening the Merrick community; and
WHEREAS, Young Israel of Merrick stands on the threshold of tomorrow,
prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retaining
that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Young Israel of Merrick upon the occasion of hosting its 25th
Anniversary Jubilee Journal Dinner and to honor Susuan and Avi Abikzer
for special recognition, fully confident that this celebration reflects
the belief in those values which enhance the dignity and purpose of
life; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Rabbi Marc S. Volk, Young Israel of Merrick, and Susan
and Avi Abikzer.
