LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Christian Brothers
Academy/Jamesville-Dewitt Varsity Ice Hockey Team upon the occasion of
winning the 2013 New York State Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive team sports can be
achieved only through disciplined practice, teamwork and sportsmanship,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling them in the value of hard work and by encouraging a standard
of healthy living; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
congratulate those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving success in athletic competition, have inspired and brought
pride to their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice Hockey Team
upon the occasion of winning the 2013 New York State Championship; and
WHEREAS, The Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice
Hockey Team captured the Division II New York State Public High School
Athletic Association State Title, after rallying for three goals in the
3rd period to defeat John Jay-Cross River with a final score of 4-2 at
the Utica Auditorium on March 10, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The impressive win marked the first state championship for
the Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice Hockey
Team; it was CBA's first appearance in the state title game since 1981;
and
WHEREAS, The Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice
Hockey Team, a combined team of public and private high school student
athletes, had an overall impressive season record of 17-8-1, and won 16
of their last 19 games; the Hockey Team entered sectionals as a fifth-
seeded team but secured several comeback victories to win sectionals and
advance to the State tournament; and
WHEREAS, No athletic team can succeed without outstanding skill,
talent and determination throughout its entire roster; such as is the
case for the Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice
Hockey Team whose players include: Tim Decker, Grayson Burns, Sam Muel-
ler, Scott Firman, Kyle Barker, Jed Raby, Stewart Harley, Lucas Relkin,
Ryan McGuire, Kane Alletzhauser, Jamie St. Amour, Greg McCann, Connor
Flannagan, Ryan Durkin, Cole Fowler, Nick McCreary, Gavin Gray, Braeden
Doust, John Phillips, George Collins, Ryan McKee, Drew Brooks and Peter
Dziergas; and
WHEREAS, The hard work and talent displayed by the Christian Brothers
Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice Hockey Team is due in great part
to the constant encouragement and dedicated efforts of Head Coach Mike
McKie, Assistant Coaches John Parks and Shaun Norfolk, CBA Athletic
Director Buddy Wleklinski, CBA Athletic Trainer Randy Kinn, and CBA
Principal Brother Joseph Jozwiak, FSC; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition promotes the values of teamwork, pride
and accomplishment, and the coaches and players of the Christian Broth-
ers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice Hockey Team have clearly
contributed to the pride of the Central New York community; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Christian Brothers Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity
Ice Hockey Team upon occasion of capturing the 2013 New York State Cham-
pionship; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Christian Brothers
Academy/Jamesville-DeWitt Varsity Ice Hockey Team, Head Coach Mike
McKie, Assistant Coaches, John Parks and Shaun Norfolk, CBA Athletic
Director Buddy Wleklinski, CBA Athletic Trainer Randy Kinn, and CBA
Principal Brother Joseph Jozwiak, FSC.
