LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Stony Brook University senior
Claire Petersen for setting an NCAA single-game lacrosse assist record

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those esteemed individuals within the State of New York who
distinguish themselves through outstanding achievements in athletic
competition; and
WHEREAS, Sports enhance the moral and physical development of the
young adults of this State, preparing them for the future by instilling
in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of healthy living,
imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of fair play and
competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Stony Brook University senior Claire Petersen for setting an NCAA
single-game lacrosse assist record; and
WHEREAS, A native of Wantagh, New York, Claire Petersen has etched her
name in the college women's lacrosse record books; on Saturday, March 9,
2013, she broke the all-time single-game NCAA women's lacrosse assist
mark with 11 while helping to lead 17th-ranked Stony Brook to a 21-3
home win against Longwood; and
WHEREAS, A Wantagh High School graduate, Claire Petersen also tallied
two goals for 13 total points, which surpassed her own previous school
record of 10; and
WHEREAS, Claire Petersen's record-breaking performance earned her both
the Women'sLAX.com Player of the Week along with the America East Offen-
sive Player of the Week honors; and
WHEREAS, Last season, Claire Petersen was America East Player of the
Year after breaking the conference record for points in league games
with 42; she is in her second year as an attacker for the Stony Brook
women's lacrosse team after transferring from Adelphi were she led the
Lady Panthers to Division II national titles in 2010 and 2011; and
WHEREAS, A two-time All-American selection at Adelphi, Claire Petersen
was named the 2011 IWLCA Division II National Attacker of the Year after
breaking the NCAA single season records for points (182) and assists
(125); and
WHEREAS, Claire Petersen's overall record is outstanding; she was
loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and the
community at large; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Claire Petersen has clearly made a contribution to
the spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Stony Brook University senior Claire Petersen for setting
an NCAA single-game lacrosse assist record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Claire Petersen.
