LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Long
Island Chapter, The Links, Incorporated on April 27, 2013
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the Long Island Chapter, The Links, Incor-
porated to be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the North Ritz
Club, in Syosset, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Chapter is one of 276 chapters of The Links,
Incorporated, an international, not-for-profit corporation, established
in 1946; the membership consists of 12,000 professional woman of color
in 276 chapters located in 41 states, the District of Columbia and the
Commonwealth of the Bahamas; and
WHEREAS, It is one of the nation's oldest and largest volunteer
service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to
enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of
African Americans and other persons of African ancestry; and
WHEREAS, The Long Island Chapter was charted on October 27, 1962, and
includes women from Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties; currently there
are 43 extraordinary women in the chapter, linked in friendship and
dedicated to selfless service; and
WHEREAS, These outstanding women are business, educational and civic
leaders, role models, mentors, activists and volunteers who work toward
a common vision by engaging like-minded organizations and individuals
for partnership; and
WHEREAS, The Chapter's award-winning programs have included initi-
atives such as "Festival of Joy", "Links for Success", "Education Across
the Miles", "LIFE", and "Roses in Bloom", working with homeless women,
mentoring children at risk, serving the needy and elderly in nursing
homes, and providing scholarships to deserving high school graduates;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious Golden Anniversary presents a unique opportu-
nity for this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Long
Island Chapter, The Links, Incorporated; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when organ-
izations of such noble aims and accomplishments, and which serve to
bring people together for such glorious purposes, are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized by all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Long Island Chapter, The Links,
Incorporated on April 27, 2013; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Long Island Chapter, The Links, Incorporated.
