LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring writer, actor, teacher and producer
Andrea Ciannavei for her outstanding professional achievements in the
field of performing arts

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and recognize
those gifted individuals whose commitment and creative talents have
contributed to the cultural enrichment of their community and the entire
State of New York; Andrea Ciannavei is one such individual; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
writer, actor, teacher and producer Andrea Ciannavei for her outstanding
professional achievements in the field of performing arts; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Ciannavei recently traveled to 10 countries across
three continents in three months to conduct interviews and research on
human trafficking, sex slavery and other women's empowerment issues to
be used for a play created by Marsha Norman that will be presented off-
Broadway in 2013; and
WHEREAS, Her plays include "Deep Trees", "The Hard Sell", "7 Captiva
Road" and "Pretty Chin Up" which received a development production at
LAByrinth Theater Company (Artistic Directors: Philip Seymour Hoffman
and John Ortiz) at The Public Theater; TV: Season 2 of Copper (BBC Amer-
ica), Seasons 1- 3 of Borgia (Tom Fontana, Executive Producer, Atlan-
tique Creations SASU); Publications: Pretty Chin Up (Playscripts, Inc.);
and
WHEREAS, Since 2008, Andrea Ciannavei has produced the Helen Deutsch
Writing Workshops: free writing workshops for veterans, wounded warriors
and their caregivers in Ohio, Texas, New York, Landstuhl's American
Military Hospital, Germany, sponsored by the Writers' Guild Initiative
and in partnership with Wounded Warrior Project; and
WHEREAS, Andrea Ciannavei did her undergraduate studies at NYU's Tisch
School of the Arts' Dramatic Writing Program and went on to Juilliard's
Lila Acheson Playwriting Fellowship, 2008-2010; and
WHEREAS, A proud member of the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE),
Andrea Ciannavei has lived in Harlem for 15 years with her partner and
her two dogs, Louie and Athena; in her free time, she enjoys biking,
running, bikram yoga, skydiving, glass blowing, computer programming and
welding; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those talented
individuals who enhance the quality of life in their community and have
shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high stand-
ards in their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and
applause of all citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor writer, actor, teacher and producer Andrea Ciannavei for her
outstanding professional achievements in the field of performing arts;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Andrea Ciannavei.
