LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Ed Barnowski for his extraordinary
athletic achievements upon the occasion of his induction into the Sche-
nectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Ed
Barnowski for his extraordinary athletic achievements upon the occasion
of his induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall
of Fame, to be celebrated at the 16th Annual Schenectady City School
District Athletic Hall of Fame and Reunion Dinner on Monday, September
9, 2013, at Proctor's Theatre in Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ed Barnowski began his athletic career playing baseball at
Mont Pleasant High School in 1959, where he was the team's pitcher from
1959 to 1961; and
WHEREAS, During his time at Mont Pleasant High School, Ed Barnowski
led his team to an undefeated season in 1960, while simultaneously earn-
ing a spot for All-County in Football; and
WHEREAS, In 1961, he earned Baseball Player of the Year for the Class
A League; and
WHEREAS, Ed Barnowski went on to attend Syracuse University where he
pitched for the baseball team for two years, then signing on with the
Baltimore Orioles as a contracted pitcher following his sophomore season
at Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, During his career with the Baltimore Orioles, Ed Barnowski
pitched for the team from 1965-1966, pitching in a total of six Major
League games, earning a 2.45 ERA, striking out eight batters in 7.1
innings and helping to lead Baltimore to victory; and
WHEREAS, Ed Barnowski spent time in the minor leagues, most notably,
playing for the Stockton Ports, the Baltimore Orioles farm team, where
he struck out 322 batters in 222 innings for the Class A Stockton of the
California State League in 1964, leading all minor leagues in the coun-
try in strikeouts; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, Ed Barnowski pitched a no-hit, no-run game for
Stockton vs. Reno, and nine innings of no-hit ball for Stockton vs.
Salinas, earning him designation as Topps Baseball Pitcher of the Month
of August of 1964; and
WHEREAS, While playing for the Elmira Pioneers in 1965, Ed Barnowski
pitched a no-hit, no-run game for Elmira vs. Reading, Class AA, going on
to play for the Rochester Red Wings in 1966, where he finished with a
17-8 record for the Class AAA; and
WHEREAS, Ed Barnowski was selected for the All-Star Team in Class A in
1964, Class AA in 1965, and Class AAA in 1966; and
WHEREAS, Ed Barnowski finished his seven year Minor League career with
a 3.12 ERA, averaging 9.7 strike-outs per nine innings; and
WHEREAS, Ed Barnowski crowned his career in the early 1970s, serving
as Assistant General Manager and General Manager for the Rochester Red
Wings; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional baseball player was named Schenectady
Athlete of the Year in 1965 by the Mont Pleasant Athletic Club, and then
inducted into the Capital District Baseball Hall of Fame with the inau-
gural class of 2011; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Ed Barnowski; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Ed Barnowski for his
extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Ed Barnowski for his extraordinary athletic
achievements upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady
City School District Athletic Hall of Fame; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ed Barnowski, and the Schenectady School District Athletic
Hall of Fame.
