LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Hamlet
of Carle Place, New York, to be feted with a year-long celebration

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and memori-
alize the proud and distinguished histories of the cities, towns and
villages which comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of the Hamlet of Carle Place, New York, to
be feted with a year-long celebration beginning with a party on Satur-
day, March 7, 2015, at Manning's Pub and Grill, Carle Place, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1915, the Hamlet of Carle Place is a small
town with a population of approximately 5,000 citizens, located within
the Town of North Hempstead in Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, The Hamlet of Carle Place draws its name from the Carle
Place, a 32-room house built in the 1800s by Silas Carle in Westbury,
New York; henceforth, the surrounding area later took that name; and
WHEREAS, In 1946, developer William J. Levitt bought 19 acres for an
experiment; his crews brought pre-cut lumber to the site and rapidly
assembled 600 low-cost houses on a site near the Carle Place station of
the Long Island Railroad, offering affordable suburban living with an
easy commute to New York City; and
WHEREAS, Within five years, returning veterans and their families
swelled the population by 500 percent, transforming Carle Place, and
serving as the prototype for the planned community of Levittown, New
York, which was only a few miles away; and
WHEREAS, Carle Place has its own school district; although it includes
small parts of Westbury and Mineola, is still one of the smallest in the
State; the primary school, Cherry Lane School, the elementary school,
Rushmore Avenue School, and the Carle Place Middle School/High School
adjoin each other on one campus; and
WHEREAS, Carle Place is also known as Frog Hollow, therefore, the
Carle Place High School's sports teams are called the Frogs and the
school's colors are green and white; and
WHEREAS, The Centennial Anniversary of Carle Place will continue with
festivities throughout Memorial Day weekend, including carnival rides,
fireworks, live music, and food; and
WHEREAS, During the summer, a family fun day with games and a picnic
will be held for the citizens of Carle Place; in November of 2015, a
variety show entitled the Frog Hollow Frolics, which is produced,
directed and performed in by members of community groups, will return to
celebrate the 100th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, The 2015 celebration will culminate with a bigger than last
year Annual Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony; and
WHEREAS, Today, under the able leadership of Mayor Peter I. Cavallaro,
the Hamlet of Carle Place continues its commitment to enhancing the
quality of life of its citizens, ensuring a positive business, institu-
tional and educational climate, and providing all essential services;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Hamlet of Carle Place, New
York, recognizing the significance of the role it continues to play in
the life of the community of the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mayor Peter I. Cavallaro, and to the members of the Centenni-
al Committee.
