LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Hamlet of Wallkill on hosting its
Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and celebrating 30 years of bringing the
community together

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate the rich heritage of
the Irish people, unlimited in their contribution to this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland and provides an opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Hamlet
of Wallkill on hosting its Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and celebrat-
ing 30 years of bringing the community together, to be held on Sunday,
March 22, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of the Irish culture and its fine traditions; and
WHEREAS, The Hamlet of Wallkill held "The Best Small Town Parade in
the Hudson Valley" in 1985; led by the color guard, the participants in
the parade walked around town playing kazoos; and
WHEREAS, The original St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee was comprised
of 11 members, including Peter Riggins, Doc Edsall, Paul Vegliando,
Charlie Eggelton, Elaine Eggelton, Lis Cook, Alta Auchmoody, Nick
Vegliando, Robert Garrison, Rich Barnhart, and Edwina Overton; and
WHEREAS, Today, the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee continues to
actively raise funds to benefit the bands that march in the parade; the
proceeds are also used to purchase candy for the children to enjoy while
watching the parade; and
WHEREAS, Through this heartfelt and compassionate expression, as well
as through their sustained commitment to the cultural vitality of their
Irish heritage, the Irish-American people of the Hamlet of Wallkill, and
the State of New York bear witness to the deep faith and love of humani-
ty which is their rich tradition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Hamlet of Wallkill on hosting its Annual St. Patrick's Day
Parade and celebrating 30 years of bringing the community together; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Hamlet of Wallkill St. Patrick's Parade Committee.
